Do you by any chance use a blow dryer on him?  Whenever our Westie went to the groomer he came back scratching like mad for at least a week.  We discovered that the heat from the dryer set him off so we then requested towel drying (I even sent his own towels with him) and problem solved...partly.

He was also allergic to certain grasses and plants and the scratching set off skin infections.

Eventually we got onto a special shampoo...expensive but effective.  It is nearly 8 years since I bought it last and I cannot remember the name off hand...I will try and find it.

But I would still recommend a visit to the vet as there might be other underlying problems that need attention first.

Comfortis appears to slow the smell down on out staffie and helps The grass seed and midgie "allergy" that most staffies appear to be afflicted with.

she is a 3 yr old english staffy.

Teeth are good

Diet is mostly fresh meat and vegies

She also gets a bone once or twice a week (lamb neck)

My girls teeth looked good but the affected ones were up the back and difficult to see, just 2 caused the most awful smell.

B4010 I suspect you are treating the effect (shampooing) and not the cause . A healthy dog should not have skin odour so perhaps some tests are required to ascertain the cause (my 2 short hair Basenjis of 6 years have never had a bath/wash, ,just a hose down when they occasionally roll on something very dead)

You are doing the right thing with feeding bones, and your problem will not be caused by bad teeth because you can tell in an instant from one whiff of  a dogs breath if they have rotten teeth. Other "smell" sources are ears, feet, anal glands and of course the skin.
