If she is overweight, she is.

But is that the sole reason for not operating?.....

  Sounds more like an obesity/ weight lose surgery.

  Patient has no motivation...no surgery.

Probably not.  See Post #6.  There will be a list, and she can get tot the top if she wants to.  If she can't be bothered, she will slide down the list, and someone more motivated and deserving will take her place.

And that I agree with 100%.

Yes she is very much over weight but the operation is on her hips.  The doctor told her he doesn't feel that the operation will fix her mobility problems because of her weight and the lack of exercise.

There is a lovely lady that works in the town I live in who is obese.. size 26+ my guess. I was surprised when I saw her recently and she had lost a lot of weight (her clothes were swimming on her) I heard her say to another customer she is due to have an operation next year (hysterectomy) and the Doctor advised her to loose weight first.

If a person is obese and they operate on them do the surgeons have to poke around/remove layers of yellow fat before they can get to the organ/part they want to operate on? I think I saw something like that on TV once.

Thanks for the explanation.  Hard to believe because wouldn't she have a lot of pain and want to get rid of it?

   Then weight lose would be crucial to the success of the operation......

   Is it possible to help motive her and take her for small walks around the neighbourhood?
