i would chuckle at the thought that some people get frightened by it and are actually paranoid at the sight of a kid playing with a toy gun
pyow! pyow!
what did it look like?
what did what look like?
the gun. why would you laugh without knowing if it could have easily been mistaken for a real one? or the knife? it could have been real. Why would you lough at someone taking it seriously?
the OP asked what would you do hypothetically, after reading the thread i gave a hypothetical answer
i would laugh at the very fact that some people take it seriously
and if i thought hard enough about it trying to recall if i ever saw a kid playing with a toy gun whilst driving a car, i can vaguely remember it didnt distract me from paying attention to the road, i may have caught a glimpse of the kid on the corner of my eye
&never gave it a second thought
how about you eve, what would you do?

There is a huge difference between driving past a child waving an obvious toy gun to one that looks real. How hard is that to understand? For most of us not hard at all.

FGS!
OP saw a kid, who appeared to be on his way to school, waving a gun and a knife at cars driving by.
In light of shootings here and at schools overseas she felt it worth reporting. This is a commendable community service by a concerned community member. There should be more of it!
Never mind all this silly argument about whether toy guns arel egal /illegal or whether it's an over-reaction!
OP did the right thing in reporting the incident!
The end.

do you think declaring some toy guns as prohibited weapons is an overreaction as well? what do you think the reasoning behind the changes to the Vic Firearm Act was?

I think everyone needs to look at the reasons behind owning or wanting a gun, why you might want children to own a toy one, in light of the things that have happened in recent times with guns in schools and with knives.
We used to have guns and licences and gun cabinets, on the farm.
My OH said he was intending to keep them when we left the farm, as some had sentimental value............. at some point he realised that sentiment and guns did not belong in the same sentence and handed them in to be destroyed.

I read your post but I didn't see your question. Was it initially there or did you add it when you edited it? I could have sworn it wasn't there but if I missed it, I do apologize. It was not intentional.
I actually answered the OP's question in post 5 where I said:
honestly, if I wasn't sure, i don't think i could ignore it, just in case. i would contact the police.
