I don't know why I even bother to try and have a conversation on this forum anymore... some of you just go for a personal attack...
I can't see a single personal attack cat? ?:|

If you want to discuss what to do with offenders born and bred in this country then go to the top of the page and start a new topic....
I apologise for my input, it just didn't seem right to single out this guy when asylum seekers in general are good and perhaps better citizens in some respects.
go back to the OP and you will see in the first sentence I said not a good look for the good people seeking asylum...
I singled out the guy because of the charges and the fact he is awaiting to be sent back.... who else would I single out??? He is the accused...

There can be bad eggs in any group of people cat.:-(
As someone else mentioned, it's not as if we can screen anyone for this type of thing.
The only thing that can be done is what we are doing - subject them to our criminal law system and provide them the same judicial penalties.
In this case, he was likely to be going back home anyway. Now he simply doesn't get his asylum status hearing.

Yes, there are a great many people who 'grope' and sexually abuse boys, and girls also.
Not asylum seekers either.
But Aussies.
Priests.
Teachers.
Fathers.
Mothers.
This particular person was an asylum seeker yes, but would you start a thread about other child abuse cases and title them: "Australian man gropes boy"?
Aussie schoolteacher gropes boy?
I must have missed those particular posts if you have. Surely you wouldn't just be targeting and highlighting asylum seekers to prove a political point would you?

To be fair to the OP I suspect her thread title was a direct copy from the news headline attached to the article she reposted.
I don't agree that we should be undertaking special education programs for asylum seekers to help them understand our laws...that is the responsibilty of every person living in or visiting a country. Ignorance of the law is not a defence as we have seen with many Aussies overseas.....

I wonder if it was a ploy to get thrown in jail instead of deported

That crossed my mind as well......I don't understand why they don't just deport him...why waste the money a court case will cost??? Surely for this type of crime he will not be granted asylum?
