From what I've seen, a lot of ppl have it the other way round. A diet based on junk food and the occasional healthy, fresh food.


My 20yr old step son lives on junk food......he doesnt live with us, but lives with his mother, he never has a home made meal although it is offered to him, he prefers junk and he looks very unhealthy.

Interesting article, I have heard that before.

More and more people are going back to good fats and low carbs.

 

I used to try dieting (low fat) constantly but thought I lacked will power or something. I was always hungry and always thinking about food. Now I can go 6 hours without feeling hungry. I have loads of avocardo's, olive oil, butter, fatty cuts of meat, cream cheese and best of all I have cream every day, in my coffee and as whipped cream with a few blueberries or strawberries.

 

I have lots more energy too.

I remember many years ago one of my sisters hated the low fat trend and always used full fat milk and yogurt. She refused to have skinny milk. And she's never had a weight problem.

That is great cat................just showed OH, hope you dont mind...........so he is going to do what you are doing. As I said to him, when I was growing up, my mother always fed us like you are eating and we all grew up healthy.

We all know Maccas is bad food.  I dont know if anyone has seen the videos of people who have shown Maccas burgers and fries after being kept for 4 years, they still look edible Woman Surprised Everthing is just so processed and FULL of preservatives.  

 

But I'm skeptical when they use mice as test subjects and relate the findings to humans.

I want to give you some really important information though.

 

During the first week you OH may experience 'Atkins Flu'. I got it 3 days into the diet but it only lasted a few days. I felt dizzy, tired and headachey. The antidote is to eat extra salt for those few days. Our bodies are used to using carbs as energy. When the body is starved of carbs it will turn to using fat and your fat stores for energy. It can take a few days to 2 weeks for that to happen. Hence "Atkins Flu".

 

You can't have icecream (lol!) as its full of carbs and sugar although I make my own from cream, Natvia (stevia), no sugar Cadbury Cocoa and a dash of vanilla.

 

You must have good fats every day. Carbs must be 30g or under per day. I look at labels and I won't buy products that have more than 6g of carbs per serving.

 

A deadly combination is high carbs and high fat. If your OH is going to do this then there can be no cheat days or slip ups. But he will feel better very quickly if he sticks to LCHF.

 

If you need recipes for pizza and low carb bread just google. There are heaps of recipes online. 🙂

I have thinking about what my mother and grandmother use to cook and it is basically what you are having and there wasnt the sickness that is around today.

Some of the diseases that are here today, were never heard of back in the 50's.

Here is an example to get your OH started:

 

Breakfast:

 

Full fat Greek Yogurt. Approx 6g carbs per serving (plain only). Flavoured yogurt contains about 22g carbs

Lots of bacon. Eggs

 

Lunch:

 

Moderate amount of meat/fish or poultry

Above ground vegetables or salad. Low carb full fat salad dressing.

Home made soup

Cheese crust low carb home made pizza

 

Dinner:

 

As above

 

Snacks:

 

Coffee with a big dollop of thickened cream. No milk - too high in sugars.

Cream cheese 'muffins' low carb and whipped cream

Low Carb home made almond herb bread

Nuts, like pecans

A few blueberries or strawberries. No other fruit.

Cheese crisp homemade biscuits and low carb dip

No Sugar homemade Peanut Butter cookies 

Gold Medal Pork Krackles

 

It means cooking from scratch a lot.
