Southern Australia heatwave continues as bushfires burn across southern states
Updated 8 minutes ago
Southern Australia is facing another day of extreme temperatures which are spurring on bushfires across parts of Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales.
More than 100 bushfires are already burning across the southern states as temperatures pushed above 40 degrees throughout the day.
Across Victoria, 68 bushfires are burning; in South Australia hundreds of firefighters are battling 20 blazes; and in NSW there are 43 fires burning.
A massive 41,000-hectare bushfire in Victoria's Grampians has caused significant concern for firefighters by creating its own weather.
The fire has caused a 12-kilometre convection column that has created thunderstorms and lightning.
Key points
- More than 100 bushfires are burning across Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales
- One woman killed in Grampians fire at Roses Gap
- At least two homes in South Australia's Eden Valley have been destroyed
- There is a 12-kilometre convection column known as a pyrocumulonimbus cloud creating its own weather above the Grampians fire
- A cool change is predicted to bring wind gusts of up to 120kph, potentially starting new fires
- 12 of the 68 fires in Victoria are believed to have been deliberately lit

some rain would be good where the fires are burning, but that doesn't look like happening does it

I doubt if we will get any lasting rain, would be good if it rained where the fires are, but dont think it will.
We had a slight cool breeze before, OH has been outside and it is now humid and no wind, havent opened any windows still have the air condit. on.
What is the weather like at your place Iza?
