It doesn't work like that, Joe.   Police shoot to stop the threat and they are trained to shoot at centre body mass.

Then you would not be doing what you are trained to do.   You don't aim at arms or legs or hands holding weapons.  When a Policer Officer decides that he needs to shoot, he is trained to shoot at the "body mass" ie torso.

undoubtedly there will be an investigation into whether the policeman acted correctly, maybe he did make the wrong choice, maybe the chest was the only open area where they could shoot without shooting others,

Don't know, but it doesn't change the fact that this policeman was forced to make a decision and undergo these actions because of this man. The policeman will have to live with that too, knowing he killed someone. I doubt that's easy.

RIP little fella, and condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy.

From reports here ( quite close by) Luke received dreadful head injuries followed by a vicious stabbing. The father is the ex of the boys mothers.

What I can't get my around is why the adults there couldn't intervene. Restrain the man. I understand he had a knife but surely with enough adults he could have been stopped? It was a cricket training match with BATS!

I disagree. He should have lived and faced a life sentence without parole. The mother will not see this man punished for the death of her child.
