What the Gillard government has done is to place people who were receiving the single parent pension payment on to the NewStart allowance.  People now receive from $160 less per fortnight.

I don't think this is a good idea, however I don't think it was fair that people who'd been on a single parent payment for 15 years should get paid more than a single parent who'd been on welfare for 2 years.  I think that's up to $160 pf.  That's the sore point. People who work are the most affected because their payments reduce more than those who don't work.  That's the unfairness.  It's a dilemma, because I don't think it's right to claim welfare and stay home for 25 years as a single parent.
