Good morning Stringers Smiley Happy

A perfect day here in the wonderful west!  Went to the gym and had a swim there afterwards - then to get some supplies for LL which happens to be close to the garden centre.

Came home with soil improver/soil wetter/mulch (not to mention more plants) so it looks like the plans for the day are settled.

Luckily it is not too hot to spend the day in the garden so that is what we are going to do.

Hope you are all having a good day too Smiley Happy

p.s. getting close to garlic planting time (for those who are interested)

.

It is 30 degrees today....................grumble grumble.

Laney...............I have never tried growing garlic.................is it hard to grow.

My chili plants have gone crazy............heaps and heaps.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm........they are yellow...............I might have to take a picture of them for this weeks photo challnege.

This key board is driving me bonkers.................I have broken the space bar...............and when I type my posts I have to go back through and put in the spaces...................it types as one big long word.

Hi Flashie

It is one of the easiest things to grow and tastes so much better than the imported store bought garlic.

You might be better in Tassie waiting until the winter solstice to plant though - because I suspect you get heavy frosts.

One tip - get a garlic bulb from a reputable green grocer rather than the supermarket as you don't know what the latter have been sprayed with and that might impact on the success of growing it.

I will email you a link which will give you a few tips about watering, soil type etc - if you have roses it is great to plant among as it is a natural control for aphids etc.

Edited to say check out the comments on the link - some worthwhile information in them regarding regions

.

Thanks for that Laney..................home grown garlic would be great.

I makes tomato sauce from all our tomato...............I grow the chillies and capsicum too.....but have never thought to grow garlic.

Do you want some tomato Karen..........these are todays pickings.

tomato

Great tomato crop Flashie!

Once you taste the home grown garlic - you will never go back to the supermarket stuff, so make sure you plant enough to give you a good supply.

Are your yellow chillies hot?  Do you also grow red ones?

.

We bought a packof chillies that were looking rather miserable and just planted them.............they all seem to have grown.

These ones are tiny tiny tiny red ones...................but Ithink they may pack a punch when eaten...........I have not been game enough yet.

I also have some capsicum coming along nicely.

tinyones

capsicum

Those tiny red chillies can be dynamite!!!  No wonder you have not been game to try them yet.

Have been caught on one or two occasions, touching my mouth or eyes .... totally forgetting I have been chopping chillies. Ouchies BIG TIME!!!!

Cannot stand capsicum - even the smell of it in food puts me right off the food.  Totally indigestable for me after a massive gall bladder attack after sitting down to a traditionally prepared dish of capsicum when I lived in Italy Smiley Surprised

Never again!
