I take chelated magnesium, for restless leg syndrome and it is brilliant. I have been told it is also excellent for treating night cramps.

Magnesium as everyone else has suggested is great for cramping. The other thing you may want to consider is whether its sciatica, keep an eye on it and see if you have any triggers that might be causing it.
Take care and hope you feel better soon

dunno about this medication advice
i'd be looking at the mechanical side of things & what possy you are in bed
if its happening on the right side.. perhaps sleep on the left
and look at learning how to maintain oneself through exercise in the prevention of future cramp attacks, repetition stretching exercises.. rotation of the back away from the right would be a good start and would also add flexion of the back too...be best to read up on it.
Signatures suck.

Salt made no difference to mine, have had restless leg syndrome all my life and massive cramps.... no more!:-D I pay $29 for 200 tablets so not expensive at all.
also, if it's walking that does it, it probably means you need more water, not just salt.

..and here is a little know secret that works too.
Rub Vicks into the thighs and lower legs before going to bed. (or anywhere that aches, for that matter of fact)
You will notice a great improvement. 🙂
Works much better than voltarin / deep heat type gels/creams.
** drink plenty of water**, is also great advice.

Oh, one of my grandies has a cough, last night my daughter told me to put vicks on her feet, put socks on and put her to bed.... it worked!!!! even though she whined about her hot feet, she slept well and slept in.
