Gillards partner was unemployed... he had no job... he did nothing... people started to say he was bludging of the people because of his very bad behaviour and not because he had no job because he was not getting paid to be Gillards partner. His demands for free tickets to sporting events and the way he behaved when Abbott was at some of the same events was what gave him the bad name and tag of bludger.
What makes you think he did nothing?

Bashing poor Mrs Abbot for doing nothing that is anyone's business. She seems a nice person. Would you all prefer someone like Margaret Whitlam who thought she was pm and made pronouncements on everything political or not until she was put back in her box - remember her?????

We have been conditioned to expectations that a PM has a spouse/partner who accompanies the PM most of the time. Right or wrong? no idea.
As for Mrs Whitlam, she was a generous, caring woman who was a wonderful advocate for women's rights and many other things at the time, that needed changing. She had some criticism directed at her but on the whole she was well liked. (from my experiences)
