As a parent I would support my children if they are studying/working part time. If they wanted to laze around all day watching DVD's and playing online games, are capable of paid work &  made no genuine effort to get a job, they could  go and live somewhere else.

When she was a kid, my youngest used to say that she would never leave home. lol.

Mine was the opposite as a young teen, she had the meanest parents in the world and thought she should have the freedom of an 18 yo.

She did live away from home for about 4mths when she was on her gap year ( he rfriends had a room vacant in their house for that length of time). While she did enjoy that (living in the city) she had no hesitation in coming back home.

blue, when my son was little, he used to say " I'm never leaving you mum"

I'm beginning to think he really meant it lol

LOL. Mine used to say that, too.
