Not sure that came out right....I meant lucky for the kids that the dog didnt injure the guinea pig, it chased it around and only managed a small nip at its fur. The poor thing died of fright shortly after.

It will mean that cats are not allowed to leave their owner's property 24/7.

I have 3 cats who have never set foot outside and are very happy, energetic and healthy pets.

I hate seeing squished cats on the road and hearing here now and then of pets who come home after being beaten by people.

Cats, definitely ones in suburbia, I feel should be kept safe in their homes. I also agree it is wrong and disrespectful of owners to let their pets be a nuisance to others. I have heard people say they don't use kitty litter as they would rather their cats do their pooping outside. Most likely in neighbours yards...

Bottom line, love your animals by keeping them safe by being inside and at same time they can't be a nuisance to others. A cheap way to get a cat enclosure is to keep an eye out on maybe Facebook Garage Sale pages or eBay, Gumtree for a used large bird aviary. Much cheaper than a purpose bought cat enclosure.

My three cats are indoor cats.

Sprinkles I'm hearing you.  Those types just dont deserveanimals imo.  Cats can be very distructive to wildlife especially birds, it's just so irresponsible to allow your cat to wander like that.  I do understand that they can be hard to contain but still there are ways of containing them to your own yard.  My cat spends most of her life inside, she does venture outside here and there but never leaves the yard because I just dont allow her to.  

 

I'm going to put some potted lavender out there and sprinkle some pepper around aswell see how that goes.  If it doesn't work I will then purchase some of those sprinkles you suggested.

The "Get off my garden" spray and crystals that I recommended are not very expensive, however, I do have a strange suggestion for you.......cats hate aluminium foil......placing it over areas where you do not want them going to the toilet works ....indoors or out doors...alternatively, cut up some lemons and throw them around the area....cats hate the smell.

I live in the council that is going to bring that in, 6 months from now. Cats have to stay in their own yard, and have to be inside by 8pm through to 7.00am.

 

The night curfew has been in for yrs. and works well. Dont know how the other will go for some cat owners, mine dont wander, they stay in their own yard.

Boy, can't wait for that piece of legislation where I live. Should be the case Oz wide. Roll out those cat traps!

Unfortunately, curfews only work if the owners take responsibility and understand why curfews are needed, such as to protect native wildlife, and other cats and pets.

 

The owners need to respect it, and if not, the council needs to enforce it.

cats are out all the time. Which is fine so long as they are not up to no good...but the council takes no action if a specific cat attacks another cat or a person.

 

I have tried various forms of deterrents, non-toxic pellets etc., but the cats just found another spot. The front door steps, the driveway, no burying.

 

I like cats. I have had a cat, who was very loving, and not a killer or agressive. She was inside and out without an issue, and inside at night.

 

The neighbour's cat is a monster. Nothing stops it from fighting other animals and pooping everywhere.

 

As soon as it moved in, it started getting annoyed that I would dare go into my own garden. It attempted to attack several times, and one day, got me, with over 30 scratches and two bites.

 

The neighbour said they would keep it on their property, but didn't.

 

The council did zero.

I wouldn't be putting up with that Amber on or off my own property. Maybe you could record such instances on your mobile or whatever which would prove to the Council it was that particular neighbour's cat, I don't know. Never had this happen to me. Very extreme though. If it was a dog doing this it and it's owners would be toast. Irresponsible cat owners get away with too much.
