I have a massive herb garden all growing in terra cotta pots - big ones 75cms or so high - in full sun against a brick wall arranged on a terraced wrought iron stand and it looks like the hanging gardens of Babylon! Even have a lime tree in a giant pot (important for my husband's Coronas).

Herbs seem to like to get hot, dry out, get hot , dry out etc - rather like the Mediterranean climate I think, so daily watering of the pots - particularly in Summer, is vital.

Another good thing about pots, particularly with things like mint - it keeps them where you put them, as opposed to taking over your lawn or whaetever when you're not looking!

I liuke pots, cos i can move em around to where I want them. Your garden sounds amazing. Pics?

Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

To me a huge terra cotta pot is too big for me to lift when full of potting mix and plants - maybe about 75cms high or so.

I'm not trying to find somewhere to hide a body! I just want to plant some herbs LOLOLOLOL

I like terra cotta pots. Plastic ones are better for plants as they retain the water better. Especially if the plant owners aren't that good at remembering to water their plants in pots outside. Terra cotta pots absorb the heat too.

I have a parsley plant in a terracotta pot and it has hardly grown since I put it in there. I bought a another one and put it in the garden and it has grown big.

i think terracotta pots and terracotta in general are beautiful.

Thinking of getting a few herbs in pots. Do they need protection from snails and slugs or is the aroma of the herbs enough to keep them away?
