I was thinking similarly greencat.  In the past, her mother may have failed the "casting couch" audition ending her dream to mix with the stars with its associated "fame and fortune".  And in seeking a ray of limelight, she may have urged her child to keep quiet.

Thoroughly sickening when some people allow their children to be used for their own gains.
