Hello Donna,
Welcome to the land Downunder.
Remenber this there is no such thing as a bad camera except one that no longer works. Any camera that captures and freezes an instant in time and space is truly a wonderful device.
Photography is not about cameras, lenses or any other hardware it is about creativity and a personal view on perspective, angle, viewpoint, colour and most of all creativity and art.
An interest in photography can change your view of the things around you, not just visual things but ALL things, you tend to be more observant of your environment and pay more attention to detail and wiewpoint. You look for alternative angles and solutions for problems that may come your way. You become better equipt to take advantage of opertunities because you have applied some thought to similar situations in the past.
etc. etc. etc.
🙂

Oh looky!!
TMC I hope you don't mind me using your flying speck picture 🙂 for demonstration purposes.
I presume you took that picture with your point and shoot camera.
Even with the resolution restriction that eBay imposes on pictures you photograph can undergo a transformation with cropping, and some artistic license applied.
Now imagine if you had have used your other mysterious camera 🙂 (which would give you a higher resolution) and taken the same picture and applied the cropping and artistic license to that photo.
The white flying speck has now become a larger flying speck 🙂

Another demo if I may.
If you set your camera to take pictures at the highest resolution that it is capable of, more avenues open up for your creativity.
Here is a demonstration of what I mean, the first image is the original the second is taken from the first, it was then cropped and some additional enhancements added.
So without further ado I present Lily the transformer 🙂
