Anybody who suggests that a banskia cone is not wood should take a good look at some of the absolutely magnificent objects which can be created from them with a lathe and little ingenuity. You wouldn't have thought it possible.

I suspect they're included as an indication of just how hard and sharp the seed-pods are.
