Brown rice should be boiled.

(No need to wash lol)

Hey Am.

I did say in post 210 (how the heck did this thread to get this far??) exactly what is says on the copy you posted - washing depends on what you are doing.

If you are cooking it in a steamer/rice cooker for asian style rice, then yes, wash the starch off.

And if you are making a risotto (or any recipe that requires you to boil the rice in water) then it shouldn't be washed because you need the starch to make it all mushy.

However, rice doesn't need to be washed because it is dirty.

I must have missed that one. Woman Happy

punch - I haven't had much success with brown rice in the rice cooker. (haven't tried many times either)

When you crack it, can you post your success story here.

Anyone here that does cook brown rice successfully in a rice cooker?

From Sunrice Au

Can I cook brown rice in my electric rice cooker?

Brown Rice can be cooked very satisfactorily in an electric rice cooker. Ignore the water level lines on the inside of the rice cooker as these are only for cooking white rice which has been measured with the cup that accompanied the rice cooker at time of purchase.

Measure the brown rice into the rice cooker.  Using the same measuring cup, add 2 cups water for each cup of brown rice plus ½ cup extra water to the brown rice and commence cooking. The rice cooker will cook the brown rice and switch over to warming when the rice is cooked.

Please note the cooker will take longer to cook the brown rice than white rice – this is normal.

Thanks Martini 🙂

thank am, I'll try that.

I'm pretty sure my instruction book said 1 1/2 cups of water to each cup of rice, maybe I should have double checked. I'll try the 2-1 ratio and see how it goes.
