is it a bad thing that i ask my son, who is in a room 6 feet away from me, what he wants for dinner via facebook messages?

I wish I could do that!
I can usually find my children if I follow the trail................. I can check on my grandaughter's horseriding lessons via fb, my grandsons' sporting and school activities, their school events, all without having to call anyone, it serves a purpose for special needs support groups where mums and dads are housebound, the possibilities are endless.
However, I don't take it out with me and I don't know any fb addicts.

there is a private messaging system on there as well as the 'wall' which is open to friends viewing.
a chat box pops up and you type away to each other - like msn and other instant messaging programs
