By 1979 the Monza was getting old.........inside door pulls had broken, had to stick another trans in it, clutch worn out...........so I ordered a new Trans Am, black on black with T-tops and no screaming chicken.  I opted for the 301 motor, as it came with a $400 rebate, and besides, I was in the process of building that Vega bracket racer.  Talk about a panty-dropper, I put twin turbo mufflers on it, and it sounded fantastic.

Thank you for post the itinerary. I can't believe I have never heard of this event. I'm going to try and get down there for at least one day. I really need to find the leaking fuel line in my van and get it back on the road. (It's not a real kombi, it's the first watercooled model)

"I really need to find the leaking fuel line in my van" ....sounds like a Kombi to me definitely has VW
