That's individuation. One makes a connection and the rest of the crowd jumps on board.

It is also a generalisation on your part.

It's not a shirt I would buy, but if given as a gift, I would have worn it and would have never made the connection between the slogan and Muslims specifically. As I said, I interpreted the shirt as being a message for anyone who didn't like Australia, not one specific sub group of our country.

Muslims are apparently flavour of the month. If this had happened back when people were upset about Humphrey Bear (or was it Fat Cat?) not wearing pants, or the debates about golliwogs or Bill and Ben, then that would be what was top of mind. People would be slamming Woolworths for stocking those products instead and twisting the scenario to suit the popular wagon at that time. 

Martini, there is no person on this board who could even come close to being mean to me.

The slings and arrows that can penetrate my impervious sheild of knowledge have not yet been invented.

Some have tried, only to find that whatever they sling only reflects upon them. 🙂

It says much about this issue that almost every comment on the Woolies FB site mention halal product as an issue also at the same time as complaining about the withdrawal of the tshirt.

 

What does that tell you?

 

It tells me that the Tshirts message is being read in a certain way about a certain 'race' and that it has everything to do with the political climate in this country at the moment.

 

Some typical responses on FB:

 

You promote Ramadan Easter Christmas and pay a tax for halal certification yet stocking a t shirt that's not offensive whatsoever will not be re stocked due to the minority who are trying to change Australia's values?

 

It would seem woolworths is not out to support Aussies, seeing they now have halal meat too !

 

If your going to pull the shirt off pull all your Halal Products that are offensive to Australians. Cant have it both ways you either support Australia or you dont

All of the above comments are true though, aren't they?

Woolworths just quietly introduces halal products, paying taxes for it which they recoup by screwing the Aussie farmers to the point of suicide, not a care in the world about how Aussies feel offended by it, yet a small minority profess outrage at this T-shirt/Singlet and they immediately pull if off the shelves.

Get real.
