Another thought too - if you know a taxi driver or similar, they will probably share the information with others in a position to keep an eye out. Taxi drivers tend to be on the road a lot, or waiting for call outs, so they may see something

Goodness me - just trying to think of all the kinds of people who may be able to help keep an eye out.

Can anyone else think of other types of industries where someone may know someone to get the word out?
