I watched an episode of Highway patrol tonight. One guy on that was cught after hooning round the neighbourhood on a motorbike with fake number plates. He copped a heavy fine, 200 hours community service and had his licence cancelled for eighteen months. Eight weeks after this arrest he was caught again doing exactly the same thing. I think dumb would describe him fairly well.

As long as you don't call other people names, and accuse them falsely of being bullies at the drop of the hat, can't have it both ways.

Who is WE? Some Australians do need their meat to be halal certified.
And I'll ask you, as I asked Nero, do you have any evidence to show that meat sourced from an abattoir that is halal certified is more expensive than meat certified from one that isn't?
WE = as only 2% of the population need it, the other 98% dont need Halal certification.
and as there is a cost for this Halal certification it has to be passed onto consumers, who do you think is paying for it????

We pay for advertising, reward schemes, stupid stickers we can get from supermarket, all those "spend $X and get 1/2 priced dish", which I am not interested in. I wonder how much less would we have to pay if we did not support commercial TV stations? With Halal certification however I do believe that most just absorb the minuscule cost, they get it in order to get contracts, and enlarge their consumer base. The milk company paid $1000 per year to get $50 000 contract, that made all their products Halal certified and meant that all their product could be bought by Muslims = slightly increased sales. This company would not need to add the 0.001cents to your yogurt.

Fine. Then don't blooming well buy it. The food is labelled anyway so making a choice to choose another product isn't rocket science.
Sheesh!

As mrgrizz pointed out, if we reduced or stopped exports of halal certified meat the result of that would make the cost of meat higher for domestic meat due to loss pf income from exports for the producers.
The economy is run on exports and imports. The more exports the more economic growth , which leads to the higher living standards of Australians.
If Kraft dropped the halal certification do you honestly think the price per jar would go down? Vegemite has been halal certifiied for over ten years. Consumers pay $6 (approx) jar now, why would Kraft put the price down when they know consumers are willing to pay $6.
Producers who have their products halal certified for the donestic market have competitors who don't have halal certification. They need to charge a similar price to the same non halal label products to attract buyers.
