I have a very spoiled and very much loved maltese x shitzu (more maltese than shitzu though! LOL)
He gets a clean when he smells!
Its about every 3 weeks, or 4weeks depending on how much time he has spent outside scavenging through our chook yard! 😉
I have a *dog* washer and and i often give his eyes and chin a wash with warm water... just a tidy up.
My dog lives inside, but is put outside when no one is at home.
I've never washed a cat in my life! Cant say i even know anyone who has washed a cat either.. lol @ Joono. 🙂

During the winter the only time the dogs get washed is it they've rolled in something hideous.
During the summer they swim in the creek most days, that keeps them reasonably clean (lovely clear permanently running creek).
They'd be lucky to get a proper wash four times a year. But on wash day they can sometimes get washed twice in the one day; we have one in particular that unless we take care to lock her inside until she's bone dry, will rush straight out and roll around in the dirt, necessitating a second wash!

This thread keeps catching my eye, reading as "how often do you wash inside your dog?"

my dog is mostly inside but sits out in the sun and runs around the yard a bit. he is washed by the dog wash man monthly. and clipped in september as it starts to get warm. if he gets particularly smelly or dirty we wash him in between. we are renters and get inspected every six months and been complemented on how tidy and clean our house is so my pets are neither messy or stinky. yes dogs do smell a bit at times but then so do people. mind you winnie smells very pretty after his bath for quite a while due to a doggy frangrance the dog wash man puts on him.

I had a cat that would climb in the shower with me, so she gave herself a wash!
I did bath my current cat once, she had rolled in something putrid and she had to go to the vets for a skin cancer to be removed, we didn't think it was fair to subject the vet to that horrid smell.

I agree. Because I keep my 2 wee X malteses clean I really notice a dog pong in homes that don't.
