Well educated English speaking people are not Boat People...they come through the proper channels.

With all the IT credentials that the letter writer had, as well as his grasp of English he would have had no problems coming to Australia legally.

How naive.

I have no idea, but neither have you.  Nothing obvious about it.  The first one is supposedly from woman who attempted suicide to her husband.  Maybe he released the letter.  The second sounds like a desperate man writing to somebody begging for help.  Again the recipient could have felt it useful to make it public.

And to say that only the poor uneducated come by boat, is somewhat strange, considering that it costs quite a bit of money.  People try to get somewhere where they can make life for themselves any way they can.  The 1st boat that ended up in Manus was full of people from Iran in trendy western clothing and ipads; as was already pointed out here before. 

If you got the chance to get on a boat to some safe destination instead of sitting in a camp doing nothing, would you not take it Poddster?
