Oh, pity.

The farm house in NSW had a double cast iron stove.

Used to love going back with the farmer and cooking up a meal
on it, heating the house. It was awesome.

Where in NSW aps?

That particular farm was at Jerilderie. A sheep, rice and crop spread.

But I can remember two others that had big, cast iron stoves that also acted as house heaters,

both also old original farm houses.

One was at near Maude on a huge property (Torres Plains) , the other at Booligal.

My grandparents had an old farmhouse on Comboyne the cooking (cakes) my dear old grandmother churned out of that old fuel stove was amazing. The home I grew up in had a open fire place with marble mantle and surround in every room except the toilet, bathroom, the kitchen had a slow combustion stove where us kids cooked mushrooms on the hot plates.

Slow start to my day. I couldn't get to sleep because my mind was racing. I found out yesterday , through my ex,  that the elderly lady who used to live opposite me had died. She was one of the early residents and her house was one of the first to be built. She was an environmentalist and published poet. RIP Isobel.

Good age but still sad.

Good afternoon Freddie and to all on your lovely thread ... xxx

Bit of a cold blustery winter day here at the moment, not that I mind (if only it would snow), can't say I like the summer, I'm in the wrong hemisphere ...  Woman LOL

It's been calm but sort of busy here as we took down the Christmas lights, then put "ordinary" party lights up in the new music room and then the sun room.  It will look a bit like Christmas all year round in a way I suppose, but the colour is so cheerful and warm ... Smiley Tongue

Fired up the gas barbeque last night and tossed a whole chicken on with potatoes, carrots, onions and pumpkin.  It's quite a small barbeque but so good, a family "Q" (you can guess the brand) on it's own trolley.  We have the kettle version also.

Love to know what others on here have and what/how you cook if you'd like to share recipes and ideas.  It's a real learning curve for us now as the new sun room has been specially built to cook safely with gas, vented specifically for that.  Now we won't get wet if it rains like we did before either .... Smiley Very Happy

HAPPY NEW YEAR  ..... Heart

Happy New Year Tas...I send Mr F out to our little old BBQ in the court yard to cook my BBQ if it's raining I allow him to do it holding the umbrella over MY STEAK.........Woman SurprisedWoman LOL
