Irrelevant.

Should they even be driving if they are not capable of ensuring they are driving a roadworthy or legal car?

Ask the OP why their daughter didn't check the car was registered first before driving off in it.

Not irrelevant at all to this thread, that is exactly what happened.

As far as the law goes its irrelevant, in SA it is certainly the drivers responsibility to made sure what they drive is registered and road worthy, not the actual owner.

and for I dont know how many times its been said in this thread the CTP and rego is the one bill and cannot be done separately in SA.

No such thing as a green slip.

Yeah, we get that about the one bill in SA. Just a few of us discussing their NSW car rego/ctp momentarily. (A green slip is the CTP here).

I know it is the drivers responsibility to make sure the car they are driving is registered/insured. In real life though, that doesn't always happen, as shown in the opening post.

Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

really? how many are quailified or would even know what to look for re a roadworthy. as for rego....here in Vic the car may display an up to date sticker but has it been paid? we should be seeking info from the relevent authorities before driving a car? last night a friend was asked to drive my daughters car home from hospital....he didn't question the roadworthy condition or the rego. I trust people to be up to date. And never trust the authorities to change details :_| as I did.

In Qld, our renewals are sent out weeks ahead, all in 1 bill, however, you can choose your CTP Insurer.

We have a due date for payment, if not paid, we get a reminder notice with a new fee, when paid, the sticker is sent out.

Personal opinions arent really relevant, the law states

Before you drive…

Ensure your vehicle is roadworthy, registered and insured. All drivers of registered vehicles in South Australia are covered by Compulsory Third Party Insurance. Refer to the Vehicles and Registration section for details.

and if you cant tell if the tires have tread, the lights work, the brakes work or the car's steering is funny then you shouldnt be on the road.

In real life people don't always do as they are expected. In this scenario (driving a car without a current rego) there are laws, and if they don't follow them and are caught there will be fines.

Cars no longer having rego stickers in some States, takes away one quick way of checking if the cars rego is current. (Although as twinkles say, people may put an unpaid sticker on their care). Didn't some people use to swap their one rego sticker from car to car (before electronic means of checking)?

Not sure about where you are but when we did have stickers they didnt give them to you until you paid so I have no idea how you would get one without paying.

and yes some people swapped plates and stickers from car to car and probably still do.
