It's a fallacy to believe that just because something does not cost much it is not of quality.   For instance I purchased a .73 carat solitaire diamond in a white gold setting  for just under $1000.   Both the gold and the diamond have lasted the test of time, millions of years, and no doubt they will still be around when all of us here are either vampires or dust.:)

So true, poddster. I believe good quality jewellery to be one sound investment when collecting. Other things like autographs, antique furniture, paintings, are so easy to fake but it is relatively easy for a reputable jeweller with the right tools to unmask a fake stone.

Having said that, the items I bought were not in the league of your ring at all, and I have no problem with that, as I'm sure I'll find a use for them 🙂
