Is this Pick on the homeless and poor people week!!!

We need public housing but we need it better regulated so that people are moved on when they no longer need it or shifted to smaller houses when their children have grown.

I'd like to see the government heavily subsidise private rentals for disadvantaged people to get them off the housing waiting list. Even those on welfare that can afford to pay rent cant get a rental because they are on welfare. I reckon it could be cheaper to subsidise rent than own and maintain all those properties.

I agree with that, but, there was a thread a while ago decrying that policy. Poor people having to move after renting a place for 30 years and bringing up their children there - why should they move out of the 4/5 bedroom essentially empty house into a smaller one so someone with 5 kids can live there instead of in their car - a bit selfish don't you think.

Totally agree.

I knew of an elderly lady in a 3 bedroom house while a family of 3 kids and 2 adults were in a 2 bedroom house
