maybe she contacted someone from New Maltida. I can't really speculate on that as it's not clear. but from the greens point of view they probably think it's a good thing ,  a person who is prepared to put themselves on the line for social justice and what they believe in, kind of like Sea Shepherd.

her job is only part time , 2 days a week isn't it??

According to my limited research, Ms Newman is a full time university student in Creative Writing and Cultural Studies.

She does part time work, formerly as a librarian at Whitehouse, and now for the Greens to supplement her welfare.  Did she try also to supplement her income with writings?

Here, provided by New Matilda, is the full transcript of the judgement.

I note that the hounding of the press was considered as a sort of penalty.

And something about a deterrent to any other individuals who may want to act in a similar manner.

And I would like to know who, I mean the members of staff, told her how to go about finding the information.  And whether those members of staff are still working at the Institute.

What social justice was served by Ms Newmans actions?

No wrongdoing was recorded by Ms Abbott or her father in securing the scholarship.

2 days a week is plenty to snoop around in other ppls emails if required.

oh well, if the greens are doing anything corrupt, I'm sure they be worried   Woman LOL

it was wrong that frances abbott was able to buy a sholarship when other more deserving students were left with HECS fees of $68,000. Especially when the govt is calling for dereg of uni fees.... do they mean higher fees just for us plebs?

How do you know they were more deserving?  Any sour grapes could think they were more deserving, then kick up a stink because they felt they'd been overlooked for a rich b1tch who in fact was better qualified.

No, the other students were not left with HECS debts because there was no HECS type of support payments available for Private Colleges.  That was one of the "payoffs" that Abbott promised the private college.

Had Abbott declared the scholarship there would never have been a reason for Freya, or anyone else, to go looking.

It's not sour grapes by others because they missed out. ALL others were told that the college did not offer scholarships.  They, or their parents, had to pay the full amount.

I was just reading some more on it KJ, you're right, no HECS fees, the other students had to pay their way $68,000  and as you say no other student was even aware that there was such a scholarship

No, she plead guilty.

No conviction recorded.

She plead guilty because they would have found her guilty of a criminal offence.

She is still a criminal.

And Abbott did not have to declare it.

No reason for Freya to go looking anyway. Private College made a decision based on academic and art portfolio.
