No, Morgana, they are not dead. They never tried to come because they have been warned by family or friends that are already here.
Even the poorest refugees seem to be able to have the latest on mobile phones and keep in contact with one another.
So for now, they are patiently waiting until Government changes and the oportunities emerge again.
I have this information from someone that came here as a refugee.
Not every refugee is genuine, some even try to escape their police and prison sentences, but almost every one that wants to come here, has to pay a big price in Dollars and risk their lifes on those dodgy boats.
