BG you can remove as many of the centre slats as you want to, depends what you wish to plant inside the pallet  .... Mine are all going to be used for growing veggies so this way suits me best.   The plan is to build 5 of them, so the least number slats we have to remove the better, removing them is not easy, you can also build them as high/short as suits you.

Another busy day outside today, we did heaps out there yesterday, so apart from the veggie boxes, today should most of it finished and ready for autumn planting.

Wow Bushie, you have done it again ... we are going to start searching for some pallets and do exactly what you have done and how you have suggested to do it ... thank you so very much.

What a great idea.   Usually, we grow the smaller type veggies in foam boxes but come Spring, looks like we'll be changing that and going the pallet way.... 

What a great idea, Bushie. I have a pallet in the backyard that I am thinking of using for a hanging garden once the house has been painted.

Just a warning for the Pallet Hunters......be careful where you source them from.

Pallets cost a bomb and most transport companies/couriers keep a supply of them which are reused.    They are not meant for the general population to help themselves, even if they are easily accessible.

We actually have a pallet making place here ( part of an old "sheltered workshop" complex).

I might be able to get some seconds from there cheaply.... I know they sell off the scrap timber for firewood so there is a chance.

I was also concerned that some of the finishings on the pallets may be toxic, buying them "raw" would stop that as well 

My house now lookls like a tip! I have boxes, full, half full, empty and still flat pack all over the place, as well as piles of stuff sorted into To Pack, To Donate and TO Throw Away.

I just want to crawl into a corner and let someone else do it all......

Re: pallets, check on gumtree. Some businesses have them for free.
