Unfortunately, it is the confronting images that make the general population sit up and take notice, and do something. It is the role of the photo journalist to document and be evocative ; to raise awareness. That is their job. No photographer worth their salt would ignore an opportunity to take such a symbolic and profound shot that presented itself. The photographer was condemned - still is - because he did not, could not, remove that poor little girl from where she was. That was what happened at the time. and. what is shameful. is that children are still facing starvation some twenty years later.

Who condemned the photographer ?
He felt bad himself but I didn't see anyone else condemn him.

What planet you live on? Yes, there are funds raised with songs, but it was the images of starvation that made people to want to do those concerts, and record those record.

Rubbish. I think you grossly underestimate the intelligence, compassion, and methods of Geldof. He does not use staged photos.

I think.. I can't look at that pic again, couldn't bear it the first time either.
Everyone has an opinion.... and no one should be castigating anyone else, for the way they feel about that pic.
