In recent years, Mr Fraser had become an outspoken critic of the Liberal Party and quit the party in 2010 over the party's lurch to the right on issues such as immigration. = kudos to that

I am so surprised by this.  I followed him on Twitter too and there was no sign.

 

As he was a Twitterfan himself I think I can quote Sarah Hanson-Young as she said it so well.

 

Mr Fraser a politician of principle and leader of compassion. A true gentleman with a heart full of empathy. I am devastated.

He wasn't always that, but we all most of us mature, mellow, soften and change our views as we age and learn more of the world and its people. 

 

He did just that.
