If I still had younger children, I would spend my Easter Saturday (depending on the weather) taking them out on a family outing.. Around here there would be many nationalities/cultures visiting and having picnic's, playing ball games in the grassed areas beside the beaches. That is what I would want my children to see, and maybe join in some ball games etc with other children there.

As per usual there are those who are against it, and also those who support it, who are just keyboard warriers and dont actually get off their computers to show support or opposition.
Anyway, just came on to post on this thread, since i actually attended a rally and can say first hand what went on.
Bye now
With the greatest respect DD you haven't actually discussed anything. You have simply put your point of view across and then attacked anyone who asked you to explain where you were coming from. That's not discussion.
As for people not getting off their computers to show support or opposition, why would most people attend a rally in opposition to so much hatred. I for one would not attend somewhere where people were so angry and full of hatred for something that is not even an issue for the majority of Australians and is only really of concern to those who are full of fear for something they don't really understand.
Unfortunately that's what they do. Sprout a few slogans and run away. I think they don't really know why they believe or support them.
"What you fear, you create".

Redgum Songwriter Disturbed At Reclaim Australia's 'Co-opting' Of Iconic Song Of Peace
The singer and songwriter of the iconic Australian song ‘I Was Only Nineteen’ said earlier today he was “very disturbed” to learn his music had been used by protestors from Reclaim Australia yesterday to promote “ignorance and intolerance”.
A cover of the song – full title ‘I was Only Nineteen (A Walk In The Light Green) – was played live at the Reclaim Australia rally on the Gold Coast yesterday, one of at least 16 events staged around the country purportedly to protest the ‘Islamification’ of Australia and halal food.
John Schumann, lead singer of the popular 1970s and 80s band Redgum wrote and released ‘Only 19’ in 1983. It remains one of the Top 30 highest selling Australian songs of all time.
Schumann said he was “very, very disappointed” that a song which promotes peace would be used at a Reclaim Australia rally, particularly given his entire body of musical work has been about “understanding, compassion, tolerance and inclusiveness”.

Shades of Hanson.
Come to think of it, there's been a nationalistic bent emerging through a couple of ads of late, playing up the Australian identity. When Pauline Hanson wanted the "I am Australian" song tagged to the Party, the Seeker and 1967 Australian of the Year recipient who penned the tune quickly issued a "please explain" and it was dropped.
Ditto with the flag.
Since its adoption as the national flag in 1901, the Australian flag has stood for colonialism, racism and militarism. So it was no coincidence that the anti-Lebanese rioters at Sydney's Cronulla beach last December draped themselves in the Australian flag as they beat, kicked, and threw beer bottles at anyone who looked Middle Eastern. Neither was it a coincidence that Pauline Hanson, founder of the racist One Nation party, chose to promote herself as "the mother of the nation" wrapped in the flag.

Ignorance and intolerance applies to all who attended that rally, the for and against.
Just like on here.

i think the that the sharia law that it takes 4 male witness's or it's not rape could catch on here quite well with some - guessing that group would not include any women though.

many muslim countries have "moral police" that could catch on as well - paid to drive around and beat women who are not covered from head to foot.
