I saw a house floating away on the news.    Where was that?

Town of Dungog, North of Newcastle. Four houses washed off their footings. 3 people died - elderly residents Woman Sad.. one reluctant to abandon her dog (from news reports).

Amber, what worries me is that the tree is planted at the front gate of the neighbouring property....half way across the frontage but the canopy has spread so far that it is overhanging the fence line.  It is on the southerly side of our property and that is where the wind is coming from.  Over the years the tree has developed a slight list towards our property.  As our bedroom is built forward of their property we are sitting ducks.

There have been sticks/twigs/bunches of leaves raining down all day and our front porch and lawn is covered in gum tree droppings.

I am seriously thinking of inviting the neighbour to clean up our property when it is all over.  We have had over 30 years of cleaning up after that bl**dy tree after a southerly has gone through and I am fed up with it.

Stay safe DEB, thinking of you and those who live up that way

Has been quite cold down this way, has the first frost of the season yesterday morning

I can see why you are concerned about the tree and fed up with the debris falling, lyndal.

We had a big gum tree on our front lawn, close to our house in the last house we lived in (  7 years we lived there, watching it get bigger and bigger).

They drop a lot of sticks etc at the best of times, let alone in a storm.

My neighbour had also had a big gum tree in her back yard, but if that one fell it wouldn't have hit our house. In high winds we did get the branches, twigs with leaves etc.. which was a pain (landed in swimming pool).

Very sad news re Dungog.

DEB and Lyndal, I hope things are starting to settle down a bit up there for you.

Morning Bushie.   Been up since about 3.30am when stars were spotted with the clouds thinning out.  Then lots of lightning/ thunder and  had a sudden burst of rain.  Winds have died down significantly; and rain has stopped.

It was eerie without power in the lower areas and no orange street lights on Wyong Road.

Just looked outside to the rear garden from the balcony now.  The sky is a vivid blue - see the colour on the "quote" word.  with puffy white clouds to the east; dark grey south and west.

The garden.Smiley Mad  Debris from the blasted palm trees is scattered all about - about 30 fronds.  Sticks from the massive gum are strewn too.  Some gum tree litter from trees on the council verge at the front, are in the backyard.

My 2 year old, 10 foot high black stemmed pittosporum is laying down.  Looks like I'll prune it to half height and then try and stake up.

Looked out to the front yard about 20 palm fronds there.  All the trees along the verge (8)  in front of 6 houses, have been massacred losing the main branches which are lying across the road.  Old conifers  in the neighbours yards have split at their base and are prone - no hope for them.

That's it for now.

Take care Deb--hope its all over....................Richo.

Omg DEB, it all sounds like a terrible mess up there 😞 Heartbreaking for your garden, but at least you are safe, was a tad worried about you and how you were going. Wyong Rd would have been "interesting" with no lights, very dangerous as well 😞 I saw on the news that there is low level flooding on Tuggerah Lake, hopefully the water level wont increase.

My eldest daughter lives over E Gosford way, the power was out there for most of yesterday and my g daughter's school was closed. not that she would have taken her if it had been open, far safer to stay at home.

Stay safe DEB

Thanks Richo.  In the scheme of things not bad at all, really.

Apparently, the weather has hit the news in Vancouver.  Younger son has contacted to make sure I'm okay.  Awwww.

Spoke with daughter on the mid-north coast she has had only 10mm rain.  I have travelled the scenic routes to visit her on occasions through both Stroud and Dungog (of course the townships are based on rivers) and it is surprising to see the flood heights there.
