Why would any "warmist" bother , as it is not correct LB.
1998 used to be the year of choice for "deniers to compare subsequent years, because it was for a particularity strong El Nino year. However the deniers seem to have overlooked: (from NOAA January 16, 2015 )
This "warmist" would like to point out that TREND and a suitable PERIOD are important and conveniently overlooked by the deniers. How about 50 years of global temperature anomaly (from NOAA January 16, 2015 )
It would appear that there has been warming over your "18 years" LB.
I saw TA the other day being asked if he now acknowledges that humans are causing climate change, and he, poor sod, did not know where to look, and while he did not actually say that he accepts he was wrong in the past, he did mumble that "it is important to take action to reduce emissions of CO2" and then stated that he has a plan. 
The warming in Antarctica is now 2.something degrees in the past 100 years and it is having effect on krill and some other small creatures, which penguins depend on. I cannot believe that some people still believe that it is not happening. But when you get some with ignorance coupled with arrogance, what else can you expect.

It seems that there is a graph for everybody who has an opinion on "Global Warming" no wonder people are sceptical and the warmists swallow it whole and regurgitate it in a never ending rant and call people who question this junk science "deniers" which is offensive and they know it, it refers back to the "Holocaust denires" that's why they persist.
