What yr did Naplan start in Aust?

2008 under the current system but it replaces the previous testing that was done by state and territories......so just a change to a national assessment.

Not sure Bushies.  My sons sat them when they were in primary school 3rd year and Naplan was new then. They are in their early 20s now.

Trial tests began in 2003 with the Naplan actually beginning in 2008 according to the above site.

Well that's interesting.  I just checked my school records and the tests they did were Walna which stands for Western Australian Literacy and Numeracy Assessment.  It seems to be the same kind of thing as Naplan.

As I recall, one of the reasons for Naplan being introduced was due to the variation of educational standards across Australia at particular ages.  To bring uniformity.

That is correct. There was a definite divide between the states and territories standard. Hence the National standard being introduced.

I think there is still a divide between states. I cant even begin to tell you the issues i have with SA education and, if the rest of Australia is teaching the same way as SA then i think future Australia is pretty well stuffed

The real issue is that some schools don't monitor what their teachers are doing and how they implement their teaching methods.
They have too much freedom to do it their own way.
