Pigs are usually killed at a specific abattoir......they need different equipment, different yards, different everything, they stress very easily. I doubt there is one that does both.

this is becoming a huge cost. far more than HALAL certification. and is getting worse.
HALAL actually makes domestic meat cheaper

SBS does not have an anti-muslim agenda.
then why call it senate enquiry into halal
certification?

So, you are celebrating the inquiry but you don't think it will make any difference?

Probably a good thing you didnt grow up on a farm, where you ate the animals you raised. My grandfather had a piggery. I often joined dad to go and *kill a pig* for the weeks meat. No stun gun was used; A very quick slit across the throat with a very sharp blade was all that was needed, and I can still see it clearly in my memories, it was a quick death.
..... not to mention the lambs, and chickens which also found its way onto the dinner table.
Personally, HALAL Certification doesnt bother me. If someone wants to pray over meat during the slaughter process, is not too different in my views as saying grace before eating a meal. It wont change the food in any way!
I know nothing about the costs of halal, where the money goes, nothing about non-disclosure documents, but i do know how dangerous scare mongering can be!
I hope you get the answers you are looking for out of these inquiries......

I agree it is deceptive and misleading, and people reading it on the SBS website (assuming they have one and it was posted there) would be entitled to point that out to them - just as we are entitled to point out that posting the same words here as a thread title is also deceptive and misleading. The only real difference I can see is that the author of the SBS article did not use it as an excuse to harangue their readers on the evils of Halal registration.

why?
What do you think is sold at farmers markets?
We still have our home killed meat.(son-in-law's farm) And i tell you this much, once you have eaten a home grown T Bone steak, you would NEVER again waste your hard earned money on a steak from Coles or Woolies!

I don't know why. They do not then go on to espouse anti muslim sentiments like the anti-hala brigade do.
If you do not agree with halal certified food, then, don't buy it, don't eat it. there are plenty of alternatives.
The stunning of animals does not always work, either.
