I stuffed up a really good and expensive printer by buying cheaper inks that were meant to be compatible. Clogged up so badly and dried up the something or other.

I had to run out and buy a printer in a hurry and picked up one for $79 which works surprisingly well. That is cheaper than the inks. It's ridiculous. In theory it would be cheaper to buy a new printer everytime I run out of ink!

Once I get through this expense the printer's a real workhorse apparently.

Do they have best before dates, does anyone know? That's my only concern if I buy from eBay.

Note to self  *ask that question before I buy.

With the old fax machine, we were advised to shake the canister before inserting into machine; because "settling" or a hardening surface of the powder used to occur.

The "use by date" is a good question.  Therefore, a purchase from someone with quick turnover would be ideal.  Also, I believe the genuine article may be more filled than some of the others; a bit like some pen refills in the "olden days".
