It's a good compromise.  Everyone can eat inside and smokers can go out for a puff.

It isn't a good compromise for people that want to sit in a beer garden and avoid smoke though. A friend of mine who lives in Newtown told me about her local last night banning food in the beer garden, my husband says it is the same at Bondi Golf Club. I will have to check next time at my local pub as they have a huge beer garden which is very family friendly but the smokers from the public bar normally go there and smoke - probably more profit in alcohol.

A lot of "beer gardens" and outdoor dining at restaurants were established for smokers in the first place.

Why anyone would want to eat at a kerbside table for a meal is beyond me - with the vehicle fumes.

At the Nerang RSL QLD you could not even take a Coffee or a drink into the Smoking area

There is a big difference though, when we overeat we make the decision to harm ourselves, when we smoke around others we not only harm ourselves but put the health of others at risk. While our eating habits may influence others they still have a choice but those who are left to inhale smoke fumes may not. Yes they can move away but generally by then they have already inhaled the fumes.

So in my eyes there really isn't a comparison.

It is an awful smell but one society used to accept. Things have changed so dramatically.
