i have a mobile however it has never had internet access.

I use it at most, once every 2 -3 months. Ive never had a bill for it over $3.25.

I "lost" mine about 6 years ago.  It hadn't been used for about 3 years prior to that.  And people can find me if it's really necessary.  

I think I've met many interesting people because I'm not concentrating on a boring "where are you?", "Look what I'm about to eat!" phone call or tweet(?) or photo on a mobile.  I connect with real people.

Whilst in a waiting room or at the Airport, I actually enjoy watching people go about their business.

I'm coming to realize that people depend on them for various reasons.  

However, if I'm speaking with someone and they glance at their phone or take a call, I walk away. Contact finished. "Might see you another time."  It's like someone is butting-in, and that's rude.

At family gatherings, mobiles are banned unless you walk outside or away from the group - that person will miss out on the laughter and fun and might be talked about behind their back

I disagree with you there Lloyds.  I saw my mother-in-law during the week and she asked me how my sons holiday was and what places he went to and I was immediately able to show her some of his photos on my phone and she was delighted.

It's rude to chat on the phone when you are engaging with other people.  Who does that?  Not my family.

You and I and a lot of people know that it is rude ..........but I have seen in retail situations where customers are talking on the phone whilst ordering lunch or claiming they gave a $50 note - and they complain they didn't get what they ordered and did in fact, hand over a $20 note for what they in fact, did order.  Simply, because they were "too busy"  chatting.

Gawd, I used to leave the office at lunch time to get away from phones. 

I put my reasons for not having one.  And I did qualify with ....

 Wow some great replies guys! It's really interesting to hear what you think about phones and how much they mean - or don't mean - to you. The common themes are (in case you haven't noticed 😉 ) ...

 Either you guys have a phone, a basic one, that is only for emergencies / family contact

 OR

 You have a smartphone and love it, mainly because it has the actions of a mini laptop

 OR

 You don't have a mobile phone at all.

Totally agree DEB   ....  If people come to my house, they turn off their mobile while they are here, its the polite thing to do, when visiting someone   ....   

Really Bushies?  Do you insist on that?

I think people should alway remember to put their phones on silent when they are out for instances at the movies or doctors office and in certain situations it should be turned off completely so that it doesn't interfere with equipment.

I was just reminded of another reason why I love my phone.  I have a moon phase app and when it's a full moon my phone howls at me like a wolf 😄  It always makes me laugh.  It only does it once for each full moon.

I think it is extremely rude of someone to make/take texts or ph calls when he/she is visiting someone's home   ...  Why not just turn your ph off completely when you are at the movies/ doctors/supermarket etc. etc  or are people so addicted that they just cannot do that these days.
