A homosexual cpl in their own home in a community where homosexual cpls are the majority would be the norn.

A homosexual cpl in their own home in a community where heterosexuals are the majority would not be the norm.

And within the confines of an online child pornography ring paedophilia would be the norm.

The point I am making, is that words are slippery little critters and can tie you up in knots if you use them carelessly. the words 'abnormal or, by extension "not the norm" has been used on these boards to convey a sense of something 'not quite nice,' - in the case of homosexuality, something that we should tolerate (put up with) as long as we are not expected to endorse it or allow our children to be exposed to it.

The truth is, paedophilia is not abhorent because it is 'abnormal', it is abhorent because it involves the abuse and exploitation of children. Homosexuality neither abuses nor exploits anybody and the fact that it is 'not the norm' is therefore irrelevant.

I suspect that too many people, although they pay lip service to the idea of acceptance and inclusivity, cannot, deep down rid themselves of the idea that there is something  perverted about two people of the same sex wishing to 'do it with each other.'  They have no problem with redheads or lefthanders and would be all in favour of their children watching a film following the lives of children brought up in an Aboriginal community or by profoundly deaf parents, but they can't help feeling that,  despite all the evidence to the contrary, 1) homosexuals are somehow responsible for their sexual orientation, 2) that they have a secret desire to suck innocent children into their 'perversion'  and 3) that by teaching our children to unferstand and accept them we are somehow enabling this perverted  desire and  encouraging our kids to explore the possibility of becoming homosexual themselves

.

Dear people, it doesn't work that way. Teaching children about homosexuality is not teaching tthem how to be homosexual; and although  giving homosexuals full legal  equality with the rest of the popluation may well encourage more of them to come out of the closet and acknowledge their sexual orientation, it is not going to increase the number of homosexuals in Australia.

Full legal equality may increase the number of people getting married.

Full legal equality may decrease the number of suicides in this country.
