Except that none of these "rumours" came from the ALP, it was rupert murdochs daily telegraph who broke this story last Friday - a paper called the "govt gazette" by LNP ministers

Reports suggest the communications minister may move this week because a three-week recess will follow the Canning by-election on Saturday.

That would give Mr Abbott the chance to call a snap double dissolution, betting he can out-campaign Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, win the election and head off any challenge.

If a challenge does occur, it will be the second against Mr Abbott since February.

Mr Abbott won the last party room ballot by a single vote.

The Canning by-election has put new pressure on Mr Abbott's leadership.

Two polls, a News Corp Galaxy poll and a Fairfax/Ipsos poll, predicted a 10 per cent swing, two-party preferred, against the government on Saturday.

"The swing is not enough to unseat the Liberals in Canning, which is held with a 12 per cent margin, but strengthens the anti-Abbott push."

It's game on, is all.

I wonder whether there would be much of a swing against the Libs anyway.  Don Randall was a very well respected man and voters might see it as a slap in the face.

I don't think how people feel about Tony Abbott is going to have much to do with this by-election

I certainly hope so, Abbott is the best thing Labor have going for them at the moment, they are a shoo in at the next election with him at the helm. I don't think it is a Labor chess move, more like an  Uncle Rupert directive.
