There was a young currawong in the back yard this afternoon.
It was about half way down the path, scurrying as little birds do, through the garden when it saw me through the under/overgrowth...
It stopped, looked at me and said "This path's really great... It goes from over there to all the way over there...".
I said "When you get to the end, turn around and you'll be able to see that the path goes from over there all the way back to over there, too...".
It stood, motionless, taking all of this in...
I could see it's little birdy heart just about bursting with joy at the thought that the path could do so many wonderful things... ha ha.
I bet it's glad it decided to stay for the Summer, now, ha ha.

I was watching a storm this evening, boiling away in the distance.
Bright flashes, and the occasional rumbles...
I remember that the cat hated thunderstorms...
The first hint of a rumble in the heavens and he'd head for "safety" under the furniture...
Usually that meant heading for my room - I had a trundle bed, a low set folding frame with a mattress, under the bed...
Which had room enough for a cat to sit out a storm in comfort, ha ha.
If it wasn't stormy he'd spend his time sleeping up on the bed...
I learnt to sleep at some very awkward angles, ha ha.
Sixteen, thereabouts, years he lasted.
Through my childhood, my teenage years, into my young adulthood...
And when he was gone there was a great emptiness.
Not because someone who had been a pivotal part of my life was gone but because I couldn't talk to anyone about it...
Because he was only a cat...
Only...
Only...

It's been raining pretty much all morning...
Mother magpie, waterlogged Mother magpie perched on a rail out in the garden...
"There's no point in finding shelter, I can't get any wetter", she said, ha ha.
She'd had a bit of a forage around the garden, and turned up a few things, but as she said, after two or three days of near constant rain everything takes on the consistency of overcooked noodles, ha ha.
I can hear two or three currawong voices, out there...
Maybe more than two or three... It sounds like a flock, or maybe horde would be a better word, ha ha, is making it's way here....
I think it's time to put out that overripe banana... ha ha.
It seems like they didn't take off for more temperate climes, after all...
They may be upset to know that it's looking like getting up to 30 on Thursday.
"Why did we come back here? Oh that's right, the plentiful food, even if everything has the consistency of overcooked noodles, or overripe banana...", ha ha.
