I cut a slice of bread into four and chucked them out for the birds...

One of them was overlooked...

But not for long, ha ha...

There must have been eight or ten rainbow lorikeets that descended upon it, surrounding it...

I watched them as they ate and talked, talked and ate...

I remember family dinners like that... descending on a restaurant, crowding round a table and eating, and talking...

It's funny how the past repeats itself in the present...

Only the family has changed...

The sparrowhawk, while he was here last, "hinted" that it might be good if I had some chicken or turkey flavoured cat food...

"Bird flavour", after all, he hunts birds...

Just the little trays would do... he might want to have a snack after the snack he's already had... ha ha...

I said I'd have a look in the supermarket and see what I could find because there's a fair range of varieties... ha ha...

cat food varieties including....jpg

Duck...sounds okay, and Turkey, too... I'll pass on the Salmon, and, Ummm... Well, I did say there was a wide variety... ha ha...

Around the middle of the morning as the flock were gathering themselves to go and do whatever it is that cockatoos do, the first old man cockatoo decided that he should stand atop the roof, bellow in their receding forms, and then fly after them...

I didn't think he had any particular interest in flying, I mean, these past few weeks he's been more than happy to be a perch potato...

That's like a couch potato, only being a bird, he perches, and anyway, a couch out in the garden would look untidy, ha ha...

So off he toddled, leaving me with the other old man bird...

He spent the day trying to stay out of the wind, and find somewhere sunny at the same time...

In the end he settled for a comfortable spot in the bay tree... ha ha...

The first old man bird turned up about 4.30, about the time I was taking a bowl of sliced up bread pieces out...

There were three birds in front of me on the bridge, and him to my left...

I dug out a big piece of his favourite bread and gave him that, then turned to the other three and held the bowl up for them...

It's not a small bowl... It'll fit three cockatoo heads in it... ha ha.

They took to it with glee, grabbing as many pieces as they could...

Not that I had time to count, but I think one of them came away with seven pieces... one more piece and he would have had enough for the full slice, ha ha...

After today's freezing wind, hopefully tomorrow will be quieter and they can spend their day finding sunny spots and being perch potatoes in some comfort... ha ha...

After yesterday's cold, and blustery wind, the old man cockatoo decided that today he was going to tuck his head over his shoulder, and sleep, and didn't want to be disturbed...
