I'm envisaging that a family member would say to me "I want to get you something as a way of expressing my gratitude for all your help". They'd then go on to say "Something that you really want, and would be disappointed if you were expecting it, and got something else, instead".

Now, it wouldn't be a generic knock-off, or something they saw in a discount store, or found at a market, that they thought I might like better, it would be The item, exact in every minute detail, which I would provide them with so there could be no question as to what it is. It would be the exact thing that I wanted, not a "I thought you might want...". It would be the thing that I said "This is what I want".
