Another lovely day here. Not to hot and no cold wind. Great time to be outside, but indoor work is waiting as well.
Just having my lunch break, contemplating what to do next.
Time to write some Christmas cards and post them.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the tree is pollinated by moths, and to a lesser extent by bees. That would explain why the scent would be stronger at night. I can't be bothered wrestling with Google for anything approaching an accurate answer.

I love the portwine magnolias. Almost every second house in our town has one in the garden. Makes it such a pleasure to go for walks in spring time.
But nothing beats the sweet fragrance of Magnolia Grandiflora. It is evergreen and can produce flowers almost all year roung. The flowers are huge, like bread and butter plates and have a sweet citrus fragrance.
Place one of those flowers in a shallow dish with water and your whle house will fill with the lovely scent.
I must bring some home next time I go to my sons place.
