Its a strange world now, after 9/11 we have to fear flying and now the human bombs using children.

I do not know how old are you.  Maybe you haven't been here all that long and have no idea about history, or you are forgetting.  There were the Italian and Greek social security scams, Asian drug gangs.  And the racists had a field day.  But the fact are that per capita criminality for people who were not born here the Kiwis and Poms are winning by far.   But most crimes are committed by Ausies.  As for being afraid to fly now, you must be joking, flying is now safer than any time is the history of civil aviation. 

We didn't adopt their food preferences in the ration packs of Defence personnel.

What food preferences?  They are not getting Middle Eastern cuisine!!!  They are probably getting Vegemite, which just happens to be Halal certified, as are so many other items on our supermarket shelves.  All these items are exactly the same as they were before they were certified.  LOL    It's another non story, that these sort of gutter press sites pump out.
