Soft drinks are the real disaster, they have something like 16 teaspoons of sugar, and no nutritional value. They should be banned to give to children like alcohol is. Tax them! Tell poor families to give their kids tap water instead, and they will save heaps on dental care in future too.
Some soft drinks contain aspartame and have zero sugar content.
Foods like Instant noodles, high sugar low fibre breakfest cereals, some sodas and sweetened beverages,(it's the
cheaper brands that are loaded with sugar which the "poorer" people buy),snack cakes and cupcakes
are all "foods" that should be eaten sparingly or not at all.

But they are still sweet, and that means that people drinking them get used to the high sweetness. For instance for me lot of processed foods are sickly sweet and I would not eat them, while friend who only drinks lo-cal, had to put sugar on strawberries, which to me tasted very sweet.
And of-course, there are some people who still claim that aspartame has all sort of nasty long term effects.

Doesn't mean all people behave in that manner,(my sister drinks low cal and doesn't use/add sugar
in/on anything as she doesn't have sugar in the house).
Fruits contain enough sugar and shouldn't need any sugar added.

It is one of the most tested products out there and it has being proven to be safe by world health
organizations,(you'll always get claims from some that there are problems with stuff).
Just look at the products that were said to be no good for you and which are now a recommended part
of peoples eating diets.
